Description: Inspired by the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" (directed by Stanley Kubrick - 1968). The black monolith of the movie has been replaced by a real railroad spike.

How it was Made
Layers of foam core and pink insulation foam covered with spakling compound (white) and some crumpled heavy brown wrapping paper in a few spots to cover gaps.
Everything sealed with a coat of white latex primer. Sand mixed with white glue added for texture as well as a few actual small rocks and pebbles from the garden.
Everything coated with a layer of brown paint.
Dark brown wash added to fill cracks and low spots then allowed to dry. Followed by several different layers of light brown to grey drybrush coats to pick up the highlights.
Actual Railroad spike secured in hole with 5 min epoxy.
Almost done. Ape men figures (converted scuba figures) not added yet. Compare to scene from the movie below.
