Description: Our new module project for October/November 2025 was to build some 45 degree corner modules to allow us to keep some corners in our storage drawers at the school. Thanks to a generous neighbour, we experimented with 3D printing the modules. This method gave us nice curved modules, but a module doesn’t quite fit on the printer so they have a “nibble” missing from one corner.
We were aiming for a summer countryside scene, so we started with grey/brown grout to give a soil texture and built up static grass layers on top.
We used a second design to build another four corners in January/February 2026. The second type are minimum width (33mm spaced tracks with 38mm of scenery either side) so one “type 2” cutting corner can share a storage drawer with one of the slightly larger first design “type 1” embankment corners. (I didn’t quite get the dimensions right for two “type 1” to fit in a drawer because I prioritised getting as large a module as would fit on the print bed.)
We used our full set of new 45-degree modules to run the layout round the edge of a 6’ circular table at Swindon ModRail 2026.
Oscar detailed one of the Type 2 corners as a half-term holiday project.
These are the “raw materials” for our Type 2 corners, which were printed in a striking orange filament. We use M6 nuts glued in recesses in the base with 40mm bolts for the adjustable feet.
