New Cut

Built By: Dan

Description: This 25mm-spacing module is an experiment in building a module from 5mm foamcore board to give a lighter weight module. The prototype location at Haddiscoe on the Norwich to Lowestoft line (ELR: NOL) is popular for photographers: they often stand on a high road bridge that crosses the railway and canal to photograph trains approaching from Reedham along the two-mile straight section running parallel to the New Cut.

This module was the first time I've used artist's gloss medium for water. I got tiny bubbles trapped in the medium so the water doesn't look as good as I hoped. Lessons learned for next time!

The module is very light, with most of the weight coming from the adjustable feet (40mm M6 bolts in threaded inserts fixed into a small section of 2"x1" planed timber). There is one strengthening rib along the underside of the module to stiffen the deck.
